Anne Burns and Laura Smith will discuss aspects of the real property sale process when the real property is an asset of a bankruptcy estate. Topics of discussion will include the retention of real estate professionals, contract negotiations, drafting the sale motion, presentation of evidence at the sale hearing, and clearing closing hurdles with the title company.

About our speakers:

Laura Smith is an associate in the Dallas office of Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP. Her practice focuses primarily on commercial bankruptcy and includes representation of debtors, lenders, creditors, and trustees under chapter 11 and chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code. Before joining Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP, Laura served as a career law clerk to the Honorable Stacey G.C. Jernigan in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas. Laura graduated from SMU Law School, cum laude, in 2008 and from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, summa cum laude, in 2005.

Anne Burns is a native of North Texas having grown up in Frisco. She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in 2004. Since graduating from Texas A&M University School of Law (formerly Texas Wesleyan University School of Law) in 2007, she has been with Cavazos Hendricks Poirot, P.C. concentrating her practice on the representation of Chapter 7 Trustees in the liquidation and administration of bankruptcy estates. She recently accepted an appointment to the panel of Chapter 7 Trustees in the Northern District of Texas.  Anne also represents mortgage borrowers as special bankruptcy counsel for the delivery of non-substantive consolidation opinion letters.
