Welcome to the Young Lawyers Committee of the Bankruptcy Section of the State Bar of Texas. This website is designed to give members and prospective members information and resources that may be useful in everyday practice and/or becoming actively involved in the bankruptcy community. The Committee is open to any member of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the State Bar of Texas who is under the age of forty (40) or has been in practice less than ten (10) years.
The goals for our Committee are: (1) increasing the involvement of young professionals on all committees, projects and seminars of the Bankruptcy Section; (2) promoting participation of young professionals in CLE Seminars; (3) interacting with Section Council and Officers on young professionals issues; and (4) organizing networking events for young lawyers and other bankruptcy professionals throughout Texas. Among other things, the Committee is actively involved in the following programs:
· the Moneywise program, which educates high school students about budgeting, credit cards and debt;
· the Elliot Cup, which is a moot court competition focused on bankruptcy issues and which helps prepare bankruptcy law students for the national Duberstein moot court competition; and
· the Starting Out Right program, which educates bankruptcy law fundamentals to new lawyers.
The Committee meets monthly via telephone and in person when possible. Our membership is growing and we would like to encourage all young bankruptcy professionals to consider joining our Committee. Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or any of the Committee’s officers and liaisons with any questions or concerns that you may have.
